Welcome to the Essex County Sports AAU Basketball Program! We are thrilled to have you and your child as part of our team. This handbook is designed to provide you with all the essential information you need to make the most out of this basketball season.

Our mission is to provide a positive and enriching basketball experience for young athletes. We prioritize teamwork, skill development, and sportsmanship.

Generally, we work with kids in grades 2-12.

No! Our program is designed to make everyone better! Beginner and experienced players will benefit from this program. Players are broken into groups based on age and ability level.

Each team consists of 8 – 10 players.

Playing time is equal for the majority of the game. If the game is close during the last 5 minutes, we will play our top performing players that give us the best chance to win.

Team practice is generally 1-2 evenings per week. It is expected that players attend practice regularly, arrive on time, give the coaches their attention, and do their best. Any changes in the practice schedule will be announced immediately. Players and parents will be notified of changes to day, time and location of practice in ample time to be present.

Practice locations will be provided on a team to team basis.

Typically, each team participates in an AAU sanctioned competitive league, in six to eight scheduled exhibition games, and compete in two to three AAU-sanctioned tournaments/showcases.

***Please note that the potential for additional games will be determined as the season unfolds. However, the feasibility of adding more games hinges on the amount of funding secured. Fundraising efforts will play a crucial role in generating funds to cover expenses for additional tournaments, equipment, and gym rental fees.

It is the parent’s responsibility to see that their child gets to practice and games. Travel directions will be provided to all game locations. The team and coaches do not provide transportation for games or practice.

Yes! Our programs are all open to boys and girls of all ages.

Your child may participate in our Small Group Lessons, Summer Basketball Camps and 1 on 1 Private Basketball Lessons.

The cost for team registration is $425. This fee reflects the cost of gym time, league entries, costs of tournaments/showcases, insurance, and jerseys. Payment must be made immediately upon being selected for a team.

All grievances need to wait at least 24 hours before reaching out to coaches to set up a phone call or meeting. Taking time to let initial feelings subside allows for logical, controlled discussion.
