WELCOME PLAYERS AND PARENTs

We hope that your involvement with the Essex County Sports Hoops program will bring personal development, camaraderie, and fun for all involved.

The Essex County Sports 16 and under Summer Travel Basketball Team is looking for businesses and individuals interested in sponsoring our club on a seasonal basis or simply a donation of any dollar amount to help cut team cost for players.

Essex County Sports main focus is on improving the overall skill of our players, community outreach, and maturing as individuals through life lessons learned through playing basketball.  Our coaches have experience training children from ages 6 to 18 to improve proficiency in amateur basketball skills for use in competition and in developing lifelong skills. Our coaches teach sport specific techniques, endurance, and how to succeed in competitive basketball.

Along with basketball techniques, the coaches will help teach self-discipline, good sportsmanship, and the value of staying physically active.  As the children progress through different levels of competition they will learn that with hard work they can successfully reach their goals.  ECS, to start, will be a summer program running from the end of June to the end of August with the hopes that play can continue through the fall and potentially expand to provide teams for other age groups as well.

Our youth are so important.  Providing them with an opportunity to be successful in a fun form of athletics is a positive asset to our community.

FRESH GEAR

**We are providing our players with reversible jerseys and shorts, shooting shirt, book bag and water bottle priced at about $60 dollars per player.  A sponsorship to cover these costs would be greatly appreciated and beneficial to players from lower income households. (I anticipate 8-10 players)**

GYM TIME

**We will be practicing out of Immaculate HS in Montclair right around the corner from the Montclair YMCA.  Gym rental per hour is $75.  Minimizing this cost is key, granted that the players cannot maximize their potential and overall performance with limited gym time.**

PROGRAM GOALS

PHILOSOPHY

The Essex County Sports Hoops Team provides boys ages 17 & under the opportunity to play competitive basketball in AAU sanctioned tournaments and showcases, local leagues, and against the area’s most competitive teams.

The program promotes fair play and character development over winning.

The objectives of the program are to:

Develop individual skill

Teach team skills and tactics

Instruct players on the rules and traditions of the sport

Stress fitness and safety

Instill positive values and fair play

Have a chance to be seen by D1, D2, and D3 coaches

Character development (ie. Community service, etc.)

With these objectives, we will work to see that competition is a positive process.  We hope to further develop young people’s interest and enjoyment in the game of basketball.

GAME FORMAT

Game Format:

The Essex County Sports Hoops Team will be competing in the Hoop Heaven league, as well as play between 5 and 7 schedule home games played at Immaculate High School, and enter 3 AAU sanctioned tournaments/showcases.

***Additional games may be added as season progresses; however, this is dependent on the amount of funding that can be obtained.  With that being said, fundraising will be an important factor in raising money to pay for additional tournaments, gear, and gym time.

REGISTRATION FEE

REGISTRATION FEE: $350

This fee reflects the cost of gym time, joining the Hoop Heaven league, registering for 3 AAU sanctioned tournaments/showcases, insurance, and jerseys. Payment can be discussed

personally, though, it is imperative that the payment is made as to not hold up the progression of the team.  Without paid registration, the ordering of jerseys and game scheduling is delayed.  We would like to start consistent play by month’s end.

INDIVIDUAL & SMALL GROUP PRACTICE

TEAM PRACTICE

Team practice is generally 2 evenings per week.  It is expected that players attend practice regularly, arrive on time, give the coaches their attention, and do their best.

Any changes in the practice schedule will be announced at practice.  Most correspondence is via email and phone.

**Field workouts will be incorporated into training to develop speed and agility. Players will be notified of day, time and location of the workout in ample time to be present.
